Children and healthy eating : a systematic review of barriers and facilitators

This report describes a systematic review surveying what is known about the barriers to and facilitators of healthy eating amongst children aged four to 10 years old. It focuses in particular on barriers and facilitators in relation to fruit and vegetables. This systematic review was published by EPPI-Centre in 2004. Systematic reviews aim to find as much as possible of the research relevant to the particular research questions, and use explicit methods to identify what can reliably be said on the basis of these studies.

What is the impact of out-of-home integrated care and education settings on children aged 0-6 and their parents?

The review aims to address a topical policy issue in the UK, that is the research evidence on the impact on children and their parents of the integration of care and education in the early years. This systematic review was published by EPPI-Centre in 2011.Systematic reviews aim to find as much as possible of the research relevant to the particular research questions, and use explicit methods to identify what can reliably be said on the basis of these studies.

Summary of ongoing activity in the use of incentive schemes to encourage positive behaviours in young people

There is considerable policy interest in the use of incentives to promote positive behaviour in children and young people. However, there is uncertainty about whether this approach works, and if so, what the underlying mechanisms are. This report summarises ongoing activity in the use of incentive schemes both in the UK and internationally. This systematic review was published by EPPI-Centre in 2005.

Scoping review of the evidence for incentive schemes to encourage positive behaviours in young people

This review was a scoping exercise to identify the nature and extent of both international research studies evaluating incentive schemes and ongoing incentive schemes in the UK. This systematic review was published by EPPI-Centre in 2005. Systematic reviews aim to find as much as possible of the research relevant to the particular research questions, and use explicit methods to identify what can reliably be said on the basis of these studies.

Social and environmental interventions to reduce childhood obesity : a systematic map of reviews

The aim of this piece of work is to locate and describe existing review-level evidence on the effectiveness of social and environmental interventions for the prevention or reduction of obesity and overweight. This systematic review was published by EPPI-Centre in 2008. Systematic reviews aim to find as much as possible of the research relevant to the particular research questions, and use explicit methods to identify what can reliably be said on the basis of these studies.

Schemes to promote healthy weight among obese and overweight children in England

This report and the associated searchable database summarise schemes to promote healthy weight among obese and overweight children in England for which the EPPI-Centre were able to obtain data. In order to be included in the database, schemes needed a primary focus on tackling overweight or obesity in school-age children (4-18 years) who were already overweight or obese, through dietary, exercise or other means. Included interventions had to be structured and sustained over a period of time. This systematic review was published by EPPI-Centre in 2008.

Including diverse groups of children and young people in health promotion and public health research: a review of methodology and practice

This report combines a review of relevant literature with an in-depth look at research practice to examine the extent to which socially diverse populations have been, or might be, reflected in research. The report had a focus on health promotion and public health research with children and young people but its key messages are relevant to research in all topics with a range of age groups.

Accountability and children’s outcomes in high-performing education systems: analytical maps of approaches to measuring children’s education, health and well-being outcomes in high-performing educational systems

The research team wished to establish what approaches to measuring children’s education, health and wellbeing outcomes existed in countries with high-performing education systems and how these measurements were used. This systematic review was published by EPPI-Centre in 2009.Systematic reviews aim to find as much as possible of the research relevant to the particular research questions, and use explicit methods to identify what can reliably be said on the basis of these studies.

Interaction between behaviour and speech and language difficulties : does intervention for one affect outcomes in the other?

The aim of the review was to identify research which investigated the relationship between speech, language and communication difficulties (SLCD) and emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) in children of primary school age (5–12 years) as both are common causes of concern for parents and teachers of young children. It was also to identify research which investigated whether intervening within one domain had the potential to influence outcomes in the other. This systematic review was published by EPPI-Centre in 2009.
