Making ContactPoint Work - Children' s views on the government guidance. A report by the Children's Rights Director for England

The Children's Rights Director is often asked by the Government to find out children's views about ideas or changes that are being proposed in children's social care. This report is about the rules that the Government is proposing for running the new ContactPoint database of all children in England.

Count us in: achieving success for deaf pupils: practical examples from primary, secondary and special schools

This report has been produced jointly by HM Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) and the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS). The aim of the publication is to report on the quality of education currently experienced by deaf children in Scottish schools, to provide examples of good practice and to identify signposts for improvement which schools can use when planning for excellence.

Statutory Guidance, Children's Trusts: Statutory guidance on inter-agency cooperation to improve well-being of children, young people and their families

This guidance, issued under section 10 of the Children Act 2004 and to which all local authorities and “relevant partners” must have regard, replaces the Statutory guidance on inter-agency cooperation to improve wellbeing of children: children’s trusts (2005) and the consultation document Children’s Trusts: statutory guidance on inter-agency cooperation to improve well-being of children, young people and their families published in April 2008.

This learning object introduces you to definitions of poverty and social exclusion, key facts and figures about poverty and its effects in the UK. After thinking about meanings of poverty and social exclusion in the Introduction, you will have the chance to do a Quiz which is based on government figures on child poverty from 2004 to 2005 (because of the complexity of the data collection process these are the most recent available). This learning object also includes a series of video interviews with services users.

Commissioning and managing external research : a guide for child care agencies

This pamphlet on commissioning research brings together papers from two Research in Practice seminars. Its central message is that research commissioned by child care agencies, including service evaluations, can bring clarity to children and family work provided certain considerations are borne in mind when planning and conducting studies and using the results. They include holding a sharp focus on the questions to be explored, choosing sympathetic, responsive researchers and having the skills to manage the contract.
