"Trying to get by": consulting with children and young people on child poverty

To help ensure the 2011 strategy takes the perspectives of children and young people with direct experience of poverty into account, the Office of the Children’s Commissioner commissioned the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) to convene the discussion groups reported on here.

This report is based on consultation events held with children and young people in five locations across England.

Social work assessment of children in need: what do we know? - messages from research

Review that draws together UK research findings that provide information on the assessment of children in need. The period covered by the review starts with the transition from the ‘Orange Book’, the Department of Health’s (1988) practice guidance on comprehensive social work assessments, to the Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their Families (Department of Health et al., 2000).

Scotland: a safe place for child traffickers?

This scoping study on the extent and nature of child trafficking in Scotland was commissioned by Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People (SCCYP).

The purpose of the study was to provide the Commissioner with an understanding of child trafficking which would allow his office to make recommendations for policy, practice and legislative change and to use the results to raise awareness, among professionals and key stakeholders, of child trafficking.

Scotland's child internet safety action plan

The Scottish Government is taking steps which will improve the safety of our children and young people in the online environment. This plan outlines a series of actions which can help meet this aspiration.

It builds on the UK-wide Strategy for Child Internet Safety published in December 2009 and will, once implemented, help to make young people’s approach to the internet more safe and responsible. The plan has been developed in partnership with a dedicated Scottish Stakeholder Group.
