Drug treatments for Alzheimer’s disease : Aricept, Exelon, Reminyl and Ebixa

The Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading care and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. They produce information and advice sheets to support those affected by dementia. Though no drug treatments can provide a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, drug treatments have been developed that can temporarily slow down the progression of symptoms in some people. Aricept, Exelon and Reminyl all work in a similar way and are known as acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. There is also a newer drug, Ebixa, which works in a different way to the other three.

The Advocacy Conference 2003 : practice issues in advocacy

This conference report discusses the outcomes of workshops carried out by the Advocacy Safeguards Agency (ASA) and the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance (SIAA) in association with the Scottish Executive. In preparation for revising guidance on advocacy provision, these workshops focused on good practice in advocacy which highlighted some of the issues advocates, advocacy organisations and others would like guidance on.

Mental Health Delivery Plan : Development of Peer Specialist Roles : A Literature Scoping Exercise

The Scottish Recovery Network commissioned the Scottish Development Centre for Mental Health to undertake a scoping exercise on the Development of Peer Specialist Roles in Scotland. This paper reports on two aspects of the project: 1. A literature scoping exercise on existing models of accredited training and peer specialist roles; 2. Telephone interviews with existing peer specialist / peer support projects in Scotland, and the US.

Developing definitions of local authority services and guidance for future development of the Children in Need Census

Report of a study which investigated whether the Children in Need (CIN) Census, a device which collects data on all children receiving support from children's social care services, could be widened after 2009 to cover some other services used by CIN, e.g. youth justice, health services.
