SCIE research briefing 20 : the implementation of individual budget schemes in adult social care

This briefing examines some of the recent UK and international literature relating to the development of personal budget schemes for adults eligible for support from social care services. These include older people, people with physical or sensory disabilities, people with learning disabilities and people with mental health problems. SCIE report 15: using digital media to access information and good practice for paid carers of older people: a feasibility study

This report describes a study commissioned by SCIE and jointly funded with the National Knowledge Service. It was carried out by the University of Brighton to explore the feasibility and the appropriateness of digital technologies to support the work of paid carers in residential care homes for older people. Not a one way street : research into older people’s experiences of support based on mutuality and reciprocity : interim report

This paper outlines interim findings from an action research project called 'Not a one-way street', which is part of the Better Life programme. The project focuses on the various ways in which older people with high support needs take up active roles within different support arrangements based on 'mutuality and reciprocity'. This paper explores alternative approaches to planning, funding and providing long term care for older people with high support needs.
