Summary report presenting findings relating to young people's experience of and response to 18 broad types of civil law problem. It particularly looks at the role of social isolation on problem experience by considering separately the experience of young respondents living apart from their parents or any other adult over the age of 24.

Descriptive mapping of health promotion studies in young people

This review aimed to identify research on health promotion for young people in the areas of accident prevention, mental health, nutrition, physical activity, sexual health and substance abuse. Its purpose was to describe the needs and views of young people with respect to their health, examine the range of interventions undertaken, and make recommendations for future research.

Dementia and children

The Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading care and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. They produce information and advice sheets to support those affected by dementia. Finding out that someone close to you has dementia, and coping with the ongoing illness, can be distressing for anyone. But children and young people can find it particularly difficult. This advice sheet explains how to talk to children about dementia and suggests ways of helping them feel secure and involved.

This briefing focuses on other therapies or measures to help children and young people who deliberately self-harm (DSH). The aim of the therapy is either to reduce the amount they self harm or to stop them self-harming completely. The population covered by this briefing are children and adolescents up to the age of 19 who live in the community. The characteristics of self-harm, and the psychological and psychosocial factors associated with self-harm among children and adolescents are covered in a previous briefing in this series.

This report is the result of the inspection of services to protect children in the Aberdeen City Council area. It covered the range of services and staff working in the area who had a role in protecting children.
