Having your say? : the same as you?

'The same as you?' review of services for people with learning disabilities was published in 2000. It set out a 10-year programme of change that would support children and adults with learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders (including Asperger’s syndrome) to lead a full life, giving them choice about where they live and what they do.

Advocacy : in my view

This learning object is one of a set of exercises and activities taken from the book 'Modern Social Work Practice' written by Mark Doel and Steven Shardlow. This resource looks at advocacy and presents seven possible 'hidden agendas' at a hospital ward round. The student wants to advocate for the client to return to his home, but each hidden agenda might explain the other professionals’ involved in the ward round reluctance to accept the student's view. The activity helps students to practise whether and how they might open up the hidden agendas.

The Advocacy Conference 2003 : making advocacy more accessible

This conference report examines the issues relating to making advocacy more accessible for everyone. Specifically, the report looks at what can be done to promote diversity and inclusion, the importance of advocacy for people with dementia, what children and young people want from advocacy, and the advocacy needs of deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing people.

The Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance Annual Report 2005

The Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance promotes, supports and defends the principles and practice of independent advocacy across Scotland. This report details activities undertaken by the SIAA in 2005 including running 'advocacy awareness' training for service providers, a 'training for trainers' course, the distribution of the 'Directory of Advocacy Organisations in Scotland' and the development of the SIAA website which hosts a discussion forum to discuss dilemmas and to start discussions on advocacy in Scotland.

Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance Annual Report 2004

The Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance promotes, supports and defends the principles and practice of independent advocacy across Scotland. This annual report for 2004 discusses types of advocacy and priorities for the year ahead which include the organisation and delivery of training on the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 for all advocates.

The Advocacy Conference 2003 : practice issues in advocacy

This conference report discusses the outcomes of workshops carried out by the Advocacy Safeguards Agency (ASA) and the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance (SIAA) in association with the Scottish Executive. In preparation for revising guidance on advocacy provision, these workshops focused on good practice in advocacy which highlighted some of the issues advocates, advocacy organisations and others would like guidance on.

Advocacy for Children and Young People in Scotland

This draft report summarises the key findings of a National Research Study conducted by the Advocacy Safeguards Agency. The study looked at why children and young people need advocacy, the laws relating to children and advocacy and the views young people hold about advocacy including what they would look for in an advocate. The report also identifies types of advocacy, barriers and enablers to advocacy, and examines the issues raised by adults interviewed about advocacy.
