Forgotten Citizens: Tomorrow's Citizens

This podcast is taken from the ‘Forgotten Citizens’ Conference held in Glasgow on the 17th June and features Jo Cochrane, welcoming delegates back to the main conference and talking about why she feels its so important not to lose the histories of people with learning disabilities. he is followed by James Withers talking about his work with the Scottish Youth Parliament and how his role has changed over time. Finally Alan May, who is James’ buddy at the Scottish Youth Parliament shares his experiences of supporting James and becoming his friend over time.

Caring in hospitals

This unit considers the type of care offered in hospitals, using Leeds General Hospital as a case study. The unit looks at the people who have roles within the hospital, how they interact with each other and patients and what they consider to be 'care'. The different approaches and contributions to care by doctors and nurses are explored and patients give their perspective on the care they receive.

The British Psychological Society

This resource is the British Psychological Society's website. With over 40,000 members, the British Psychological Society (BPS) is the representative body for psychologists and psychology in the UK.

The BPS has three key aims, which are to encourage the development of psychology as a scientific discipline and an applied profession; to raise standards of training and practice in the application of psychology and to raise public awareness of psychology and increase the influence of psychological practice in society.

outline the huge literature on the potentially negative impact on children of growing up with a parent who has an alcohol or drug problem, the risk factors that can exacerbate this effect, and resilience and the protective factors that can reduce it. Clear ways that practitioners can intervene to reduce risk and to increase resilience are discussed.
