Co-producing criminal justice: executive summary

Literature review which was requested by the Community Justice division of the Scottish Government to advise on and inform the development of a user engagement strategy for criminal justice policy and practice. The purpose of the review was to provide an overview of existing research evidence relating to the concept, practice and value of user engagement in criminal justice policy and practice.

Innovations in prevention

Paper that starts by introducing prevention, outlining the current spending on preventative measures, the benefits of these, and also potential limitations. The second section of the paper outlines the stages involved in developing a preventative strategy. These are introduced sequentially, but care should be taken not to interpret them as a fixed chronology. The author argues that there is no blueprint available for developing and implementing a successful preventative strategy.

Making an impact: impact measurement among charities and social enterprises in the UK

Report that provides the first representative picture of the charity sector’s response to the challenge of impact measurement, building on the insights of previous research.

It surveyed charities with incomes over £10,000, asking them whether they measured their impact, how this had changed and why, what they were actually doing to measure impact, and what the barriers were to making progress in future.

Exploring the scale and nature of child sexual exploitation in Scotland

Study that was undertaken between January 2012 and June 2012. It has three aims: to review existing research, policy and practice literature from the UK regarding the scale and nature of child sexual exploitation, and trafficking for sexual exploitation, focusing on Scotland; to review key Scottish statistics regarding the scale and nature of child sexual exploitation in Scotland; and to gather preliminary and exploratory information from key professionals regarding their perceptions of the scale and nature of child sexual exploitation in Scotland.

Culture change in the public sector (IRISS Insights, No. 17)

Evidence review that focuses on the topic of organisational culture change in the public sector. It examines definitions and approaches to organisational culture and how they relate to the public sector; the type of change that identifies as cultural; what the enablers are to culture change; and describes some of the challenges to changing cultures in the public sector.

Doing services differently: local innovations for disabled people and their families

Report commissioned by Scope that is informed by the ideas and reflections of disabled people and the actions that commissioners and providers are taking. It argues that by focusing on innovation as a force for social change, local authorities and the voluntary sector can together improve the lives of disabled people and their families. It celebrates social innovation in local services, showcasing and sharing ideas that better enable disabled people to lead social change.
