Equality and diversity and older people with high support needs

This review adopts a ‘capability-based’ approach to equality, analysing older people with high support needs from different equality groups and highlighting relevant debates associated to equality and diversity.

Drawing on a range of reports, statistics and conversations with 13 experts, it presents: the equality profile of older people with high support needs; equality and diversity issues in accessing and experiencing services; the gaps in the evidence base; and a summary of the key debates and recommendations to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

The UK private rented sector as a source of affordable accommodation

This paper examines features of the UK private rented sector, investigates the impact of extending security of tenure and introducing second generation rent controls, assesses the potential for the private rented sector to provide an alternative to home-ownership for households who are priced out of home-ownership, or for whom risks are too high.

Looked-after children and young people

This guidance aims to improve quality of life (that is, the physical health, and social, educational and emotional wellbeing) of looked-after children and young people. The focus is on ensuring that organisations, professionals and carers work together to deliver high quality care, stable placements and nurturing relationships for looked-after children and young people.

Rebalancing local economies: widening economic opportunities for people in deprived communities

This is the final report of a major programme of work undertaken by ippr north, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and The Northern Way. The programme set out to understand why some deprived areas within city regions in the North of England have prospered whilst others have remained deprived even when the surrounding economy was performing strongly; to explore how deprived areas can be better linked to areas of economic opportunity; to consider the roles of local, sub-national and national bodies; and to inform a new generation of policies targeted at deprived neighbourhoods.
