Housing associations and home adaptations: making it work smoothly

This research and development project aimed to assist housing associations and local authorities to establish fair, efficient and effective arrangements for carrying out home adaptations. The report covers legislation and funding policy on adaptations; barriers to effective partnership, which included uncertainty about the law and guidance, structural factors and poor communications; and setting up an adaptation agreement.

Commissioning services for children, young people and families : a study of the dynamics in six local authority areas (Research report no. DCSF-RR133)

Report of a research project in which 'audience insight' research with practitioners of children’s commissioning was carried out to establish an evidence base for the design, planning and delivery of a Commissioning Support Programme. Six local authority areas were used as case studies to gain a better understanding of the dynamics of commissioning, particularly those pertaining to leadership, partnership and locality working.

At your service : navigating the future market in health and social care

Paper examining the ways in which personal budgets will affect the social and health care market. It considers what prospective budget holders know and think about personal budgets, how they would spend it and what difficulties they foresee. It also suggests the likely challenges local authorities and other providers will face in delivering the personalisation agenda and makes recommendations on how to make the transition successfully.

Risk assessment in criminal justice : politics and practice in Scotland

Dr. Monica Barry recently undertook an international review of effective approaches to risk assessment in social work in the light of the recommendations from the Changing Lives report. This seminar is based on that review and whilst it briefly explores commonalities and differences across various areas of practice in social work, it focuses predominantly on criminal justice and the implications for policy and practice of the drive towards multi-agency partnerships and a common approach to risk assessment and management of offenders in Scotland.

Working together for change: using person-centred information for commissioning

Working together for change is an approach to engagement with people using services to review their experiences and determine priorities for change. It can be used to ensure that co-production with local people and families is at the heart of social care transformation programmes. This report describes a six stage process that uses person centred information - such as person centred reviews, person centred plans or support plans - to inform strategic change and commissioning.
