Poverty and social exclusion in the UK: the 2011 survey

Research to advance the 'state of the art' of the theory and practice of poverty and social exclusion measurement. In order to improve current measurement methodologies, the research develops and repeats the 1999 Poverty and Social Exclusion Survey. It offers information of immediate and direct interest to policy makers, academics and the general public, and provides a rigorous and detailed independent assessment on progress towards the UK Government's target of eradicating child poverty.

The social dimension of the Europe 2020 Strategy: a report of the Social Protection Committee

Report that analyses actions focusing on sustainable and adequate reforms of social protection systems, active inclusion strategies, well-designed universal and targeted benefits for families and groups at risk, future pension adequacy and long-term financial sustainability of pensions systems, as well as increased effectiveness of health care and long-term care.

In the current economic context, the report encourages Member States and the European Commission to strengthen their capacity to assess social impacts of major policy and spending decisions.

Monitoring poverty and social exclusion 2010

This report focuses on the 18-month recession of 2008 and 2009. Whilst highlighting recent success in preventing poverty worsening, it draws attention to several longstanding problems, including unemployment. It is too soon for the data in this report to reflect any impact of new policies from the Coalition Government, but it describes the subjects any new anti-poverty programme will need to address to match the scale and scope of the challenge.

Participation and community on Bradford's traditionally white estates: a community research project

An interactive research project with residents of two traditionally white estates in Bradford, this study explores their perceptions of community and attitudes towards participation, both on the estates and with external agencies. It explores why, given the partial achievements and commitment to improving the lives of some of the most excluded social groups in the UK, government has been unable to generate self-sustaining improvements in these kinds of settings.

Monitoring poverty and social exclusion in Scotland 2010

This report is the latest in the Monitoring Poverty and Social Exclusion in Scotland series, which has been published every two years since 2002. It is shaped as a response to key developments since the last report was published in 2008. The first of these is the recession, most of which (in terms of the fall in economic activity) occurred in 2008/09. The second is the post-2007 policy framework for poverty in Scotland, in particular Achieving Our Potential.
