SCIE Guide 31: Good practice guidance for the commissioning and monitoring of Independent Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA) services

Good practice guide produced by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) to support the commissioning of the Independent Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA) service. It was developed through consultation with a range of stakeholders, including commissioners, local authority and health authority Mental Capacity Act leads and IMCA providers.

Report of a study which aimed to evaluate the implementation of the MHCT Act through an in-depth exploration of the experiences and perceptions of service users, carers and different health and social care professionals and advocacy workers, and a consideration of stakeholders' views in light of those expressed before implementation of the Act.

Experiences of the early implementation of the Mental health (care and treatment) (Scotland) act 2003: a cohort study

This research study, commissioned by the Scottish Government Health Directorate, has evaluated the experience and perspectives of those with direct experience of, as well as those working with, the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 (MHCT Act). A team of independent researchers including 8 mental health service users undertook the study, which lasted 2 years from September 2006.
