Sure Start children's centres : survey of parents

A survey of 1,496 parents and carers was carried out between August and October 2008 to quantify the reach (i.e. awareness and usage) of Sure Start Children’s Centres among the target population (that is, parents and carers of children aged under five years and expectant parents). The survey was limited to children’s centres which were designated by March 2006 and so had been established for several years.

The detention of children in the immigration system : first report of session 2009-10

Report of a House of Commons inquiry into the detention of children in the UK immigration system. It looked at why children were detained, how long they were detained for and the conditions inside Yarl's Wood Immigration Removal Centre, Bedfordshire. It concludes that improvements need to be made to the legal process, the processing of asylum claims and the treatment of detainees pending legal decisions.

Hidden harm: responding to the needs of children of problem drug users

This is a report of an inquiry by the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs in June 2003. It examines how problem drug users with parental responsibilities harm their children's health and well being. It is estimated that there are more than 250,000 children affected in the United Kingdom. The inquiry considers what is presently being done and what could be done in the future to reduce the number of children in this situation.

The public inquiry into the shootings at Dunblane Primary School on 13 March 1996

This report sets out the findings of the Cullen Inquiry following the shootings at Dunblane Primary School by Thomas Hamilton on 13 March 1996. The aim of the Inquiry was to clarify the exact circumstances leading up to and surrounding the incident, and to provide recommendations to safeguard the public against the misuse of firearms and other issues raised by the investigation.

Key recommendations include improved school security; the certification of firearms; and the vetting and supervision of adults working with children.
