‘Wherever there is money there is influence’: exploring BIG’s impact on the third sector

Report that charts the development of Big Lottery Fund's approach to the third sector against its own internal organisational development and the development of wider third sector policy and practice.

It argues that several key stages can be recognised in the relationship, and that different factors can be identified as having influenced this. It considers how the relationship is developing in the current context of widespread funding cuts and rapid policy change.

Paper that helps documenting the importance of the association between poor mental health, educational attainment and subsequent dropping-out behaviour.

It suggests (but does not prove) that there could be a causal mechanism. Thus, programmes aimed at improving the mental health of adolescents may be very important for improving educational attainment and reducing the number of young people who are 'NEET' (not in education, employment or training).

The care placements evaluation (CaPE) evaluation of Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care for Adolescents (MTFC-A)

Study that evaluated the effectiveness of Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care for Adolescents (MTFCA), an innovative, evidence-based form of fostering for looked after children (age 11-16 years) with complex needs.

MTFC-A was implemented by 18 English local authorities, using pump-priming money from the former Department for Children, Schools and Families and supported by an implementation team at the Institute of Psychiatry.

To practise what we preach: an exploratory survey of values in charities

Survey of various charity organisations of different sizes ranging from no employed staff to over 5000 employees.

Participating organisations were asked to complete an online survey composed of 14 questions. The anonymity of individuals and organisations within the overall results was guaranteed. However, based on responses, 19 organisations were selected and interviewed in more detail for specific case studies.
