Perth and Kinross Child Protection Committee Annual Report : 2005-2006 and Business Plan : 2006-2007

This is the second annual report of the Perth and Kinross Child Protection Committee (CPC) and it sets out the wide range of work which has been undertaken by partner agencies in the past year to evaluate, strengthen and develop services to protect children and young people in Perth and Kinross. Significant achievements include wide ranging campaigns and initiatives to raise awareness about child protection and what to do if you have concerns about the safety of a child.

This guidance on children who run away or go missing is issued under section 7 of the Local Authority Social Services Act 1970.

Responding to Lord Laming's recommendation for further guidance on effective practice for Local Safeguarding Children Boards: a summary outline for consultation and a call for evidence

Lord Laming published The Protection of Children in England: A Progress Report on 12 March 2009. In his report Lord Laming recommended that “The Department for Children, Schools and Families must provide further guidance to Local Safeguarding Children Boards on how to operate as effectively as possible following the publication of the Loughborough University research on Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCBs)”.The publication of this summary outline builds on the progress already made in addressing Lord Laming’s recommendations.

Achieving best evidence in criminal proceedings: guidance for vulnerable or intimidated witnesses, including children: volume 1

The Government is committed to improving the protection during the criminal justice process for vulnerable or intimidated witnesses, including children. This document is issued as part of ‘Action for Justice’, the implementation programme for the ‘Speaking Up for Justice’ report. Following the report, the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 set out a range of special measures to assist vulnerable or intimidated witnesses, including children to give their best evidence in criminal proceedings.

Introduction of final dates for prescribed descriptions of social service workers to achieve registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)

This paper proposes the setting of final dates for achievement of registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) for social workers and social service workers through the introduction of the Regulation of Care (Fitness to Employees for Employment in Care Services) (Scotland) Regulations 2008.

The legislation applies to full and part time workers, not to volunteers or workers in seasonal services.

Future Scots : pre five services for asylum seekers and refugees in Glasgow

Study looking at the types of child care available to asylum seekers and refugees across the spectrum of communal provision with a view to noting the attitudes of asylum seeker families towards pre-five provision, identifying restrictions in accessing pre-five services, establishing whether there are identifiable gaps in provision and determining if the service meets the needs of asylum seeker families.
