Follow up work to support implementation of the NICE/SCIE guidance on parenting programmes (CSDI) (Children and families' services report 21A)

Report presenting the findings of a follow-up study to support the implementation of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence/Social Care Institute for Excellence guidance on parenting programmes. It also provides some background to the study and reviews what is already known about the factors which increase the likelihood of uptake and completion of parenting programmes.

Resource Guide No 2: Involving service users and carers in social work education

This guide focuses on how service users, carers and providers of social work education and training can work together on the degree programmes. It covers the principles, practicalities and range of approaches to building and sustaining these partnerships. The key messages of the guide apply also to developing service users’ and carers’ involvement in all types of training for social work and social care staff and in the design and delivery of services.

Police stop and search among white and minority ethnic young people in Scotland

This report was published by the Scottish Executive Central Research Unit in 2002. It is based upon a survey conducted by Reid Howie Associates between December 2000-July 2001. It provides statistics on the number of stops and searches made by the police in Scotland during the period and classifies them by the race of the person searched. It also discusses the views of young people and the police on the employment of the stop and search tactic and its future use.

Developing the evidence base for social work and social care practice

This report is intended to influence policy about the future and funding of social care research. It argues that modernisation requires a research infrastructure capable of shifting the basis of social care towards evidence-based policy and practice; the infrastructure should comprise a research workforce, funding and national, strategic priorities; and currently no such infrastructure exists to support social work and social care.

Report charting the progress and findings of the evaluation of the Community Sex Offender Groupwork Programme as it is being rolled out in Scotland. Data from all six pilot areas are included as well as three areas which have more recently started the programme.
