Reablement case study

This resource on reablement includes

  1. A short case study in five scenes which illustrate how someone who as suffered a stroke can, with some minor adaptations to his living environment, be enabled to live a more independent and fulfilling life.
  2. A two part interview with Patrick Jackson, Home Care Manager, Edinburgh City Council, who explains the introduction of a reablement approach to home care in Edinburgh north east.
  3. IRISS Insight No 3 which summaries the evidence and effectiveness of reablement.

Rachel – Young Carer

Rachel is a young carer who cares for her mother who has bi-polar disorder. She has cared for her Mum since she was 10 and describes how this affected her life when she was younger.
Now, Rachel is at University but still caring for her mum, but through support from the Dundee Project she has developed confidence and is now much more capable of coping with her caring role and still achieving all of her own goals.

Skye and Lochalsh Young Carers

The work of Skye and Lochalsh Young Carers represents an excellent example of several of the principles of Citizen Leadership.

The children and young people and the staff work tirelessly together to raise awareness of young carers among services and to ensure that these services can work with young carers to support them effectively.

They are a dynamic group who have made an incredible difference to how young carers are regarded and supported.

Scottish Dementia Working Group

The Scottish Dementia Working Group (SDWG) is an independent group that was set up by people with dementia. We are a friendly group run by, and for, people with dementia or a related condition. We meet to support each other and find ways to improve services and attitudes.
(Photo 1) The Working Group campaigns to improve services for people with dementia and to improve attitudes towards people with dementia.
We do lots of things to improve services. We participate in forums, committees and conferences to change policy. We campaign to make dementia a high priority.

Short break case studies (Shared Care Scotland)

Web resource that brings together a number of case studies to show the wide range of short breaks available. Key topics include: breaks with friends; specialist support for young people with physical disabilities; activity based breaks; breaks for young carers; breaks for older people; breaks for couples together; breaks for people living alone; breaks for people who have to pay for their own break; breaks with additional support; breaks with families; breaks for people with dementia; and breaks of a few hours each week.

Mapping rapidly changing minority ethnic populations: a case study of York

Official statistics can be of limited help to those providing services to increasingly diverse populations. Using an innovative approach, this project drew on both formal and informal sources to estimate the size and diversity of York’s minority ethnic population and the implications for key agencies. This report presents the approach piloted by the project, as well as the project team’s recommendations for policy and service organisations in York.
