Inquiry into purposeful activity in prisons (5th report, 2013 - Session 4)

The Justice Committee believes that the effective rehabilitation of offenders is vital in order to reduce crime levels, reduce the economic and social costs of crime and help create a safer Scotland. It also enables those individuals who have offended, for a variety of reasons, to choose a better life for themselves, their families and communities.

RSA transitions: a social enterprise approach to prison and rehabilitation

Paper commissioned by the RSA to inform the development of a major new practical project it is considering.

It aims to set out a vision for RSA Transitions, a new model of community prison and “through the gate” provision which would be designed, built and managed around a culture of learning and social enterprise with the aim of rehabilitating people through increasing their capacity to work and resettle.

SRN national gathering 2011

Recovery films and video clips from the Scottish Recovery Network. In February 2011 SRN hosted their sixth national conference, the National Gathering. The aim of the conference was to provide an opportunity for Network members to come together to share information and consider next steps for the promotion and support of recovery in Scotland. Delegates represented all groups with an interest in recovery and mental health, including those with lived experience, family and friends, and professionals.

Reablement case study

This resource on reablement includes

  1. A short case study in five scenes which illustrate how someone who as suffered a stroke can, with some minor adaptations to his living environment, be enabled to live a more independent and fulfilling life.
  2. A two part interview with Patrick Jackson, Home Care Manager, Edinburgh City Council, who explains the introduction of a reablement approach to home care in Edinburgh north east.
  3. IRISS Insight No 3 which summaries the evidence and effectiveness of reablement.
