Education Department Research Programme: research findings No.10 - public knowledge of and attitudes towards social work in Scotland

In June 2004, Scottish Ministers initiated the first fundamental review of Social Work since the Social Work (Scotland) Act in 1968. To inform the work of the review, the Scottish Executive Education Department ( SEED) commissioned MORI Scotland to conduct a programme of public opinion research.

The overarching aim of the research was to provide the 21st Century Social Work Review Group with a deeper understanding of public knowledge of, and attitudes towards, social workers and the context in which they operate. This resource presents a summary of the findings of this research.

Drug use: an overview of general population surveys in Europe

In many European countries, one or more general population surveys have been carried out to get an impression of the characteristics of illicit drug use at national level. Despite valuable efforts to standardise national drug surveys among the general populations in European Member States and to enhance cross-national comparability, national drug surveys still use different instruments, reporting formats and methodologies.

Young people and civil justice : findings from the 2004 English and Welsh Civil and Social Justice Survey

Summary report presenting findings relating to young people's experience of and response to 18 broad types of civil law problem. It particularly looks at the role of social isolation on problem experience by considering separately the experience of young respondents living apart from their parents or any other adult over the age of 24.

United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child 2008 concluding observations : report of a national consultation with young people to determine their priorities for action

Report setting out the findings of a consultation exercise in which the views of young people from all over Scotland were canvassed on the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child's concluding observations to find out how aware children and young people were about children's rights and which rights were most important to them.
