West Lothian Child Protection Committee Annual Report 2005 – 2006

The Child Protection Committee (CPC) is the lynchpin in implementing strategic plans at local level. In this report the CPC has, in accordance with the National Guidance on Child Protection Committees – Protecting Children and Young People 2005 (Appendix 2), given an account of its work in the previous year, demonstrated the quality of inter-agency co-operation in undertaking the work of the Committee, and presented a business plan for the coming year.

Local authority? : how to develop leadership for better public services

Report focusing on the difficulties public sector organisations often have engaging with the communities they serve to find solutions to problems or winning legitimacy for leaders and public institutions. It questions why leadership in a partnership context is really necessary and arranges the issues into an agenda for practical action and policy change.

Performance inspection of social work services: Midlothian Council 2008

Midlothian Council social work division performed to an adequate standard in delivering positive outcomes for people who used services. The performance was good in relation to service users who had mental health problems, throughcare and aftercare services for care leavers and educational attainment of looked after children.

This report is not a detailed description of all the social work services in Midlothian. It gives an overview and concentrates on the work being undertaken with people who need assistance and the areas where improvements are needed.

New scrutiny bodies 2011: a conference for service users and their carers and equality organisations on how services will be inspected from April 2011 26 June 2009, The Trades Hall, Glasgow: event summary and conclusions

The Scottish Government is establishing two new improvement and scrutiny bodies for healthcare and for social care and social work. These changes, which are part of a wider simplification of the public sector, should lead to improvements and better checking of health, social care and social work services in Scotland. This conference was organised to make sure that the views of people who use services and of equality groups could be heard. The conference had two main purposes: to tell people about the changes; and to hear the views of the people affected.
