This resource discuses exercise therapy as a treatment for mild or moderate depression. The report looks at research which indicates incidences of GP 'prescriptions' for exercise in the treatment of depression are low. The Mental Health Foundation is embarking on a campaign to promote exercise referral, the aim of which is to remove the main obstacle to the use of exercise therapy as a first-line treatment for mild or moderate depression in primary care – the failure of information to reach those who may be able to use it. Up and Running? marks the beginning of this campaign.

Capability Framework in Scotland for Nurses who Care for Children and Young People who are Looked After Away from Home

The Capability Framework defines a common set of capabilities for nurses built around five key areas: Practising Ethically, Knowledge for Practice, Leadership for Practice, Multi-Professional Approach, Care Delivery & Intervention, it will help the development of educational programmes to ensure that LACNs are fully competent and capable to meet the challenges they face. Primary Medical Services (Scotland) Act 2004

This Act of Scottish Parliament applies to primary medical services. The Act is in two main parts (Provision of primary medical services and General) and 9 sections with a schedule. The sections in Part 1 look at the functions of Health Boards; the provision of primary medical services; revocation of power to make pilot schemes; persons performing primary medical services as well as assistance and support. Part 2 of the Act covers ancillary provision; modification of enactments and also includes a commencement and short title.

An investigation into GPs and social prescribing : a pilot study : final report

Social prescribing is a method of affecting the wider determinants of health such as economic factors by connecting people with health problems to non-medical sources of help and support in the community, normally by referral. This pilot study aimed to inform the development of a full proposal for exploring social prescribing practice in primary care.
