Commissioning and the community sector: how community sector organisations can be ready for commissioning

‘Commissioning’ is a word that is increasingly heard by those who work with children, young people and their families. This publication has been written specifically for community organisations to help them understand commissioning and seize the opportunities that this process affords. These include the opportunity to use their local knowledge to shape services for children and young people, as well as being funded to deliver those services.

Manifesto for childhood

The manifesto sets out a plan of action based on the findings of The Good Childhood Inquiry®, 'A Good Childhood: Searching for Values in a Competitive Age', which stimulated a major national debate about how the nation treats its young people. The manifesto identifies three key areas in which political leaders must act to improve childhood now and for future generations, and calls for every political party to write these pledges into their manifestos.

Services for young people who sexually abuse: a report on mapping and exploring services for young people who have sexually abused others

This publication reports on a study that investigated recent developments in the UK and Republic of Ireland in services for young people who have demonstrated sexually abusive behaviour. The authors carried out: a literature review; a survey of key experts; a study of structural and management issues in this area; a mapping survey; analysis of policy documents; a qualitative study of service user perspectives. Findings from each activity are discussed separately before being drawn together in the final chapter.

The public inquiry into the shootings at Dunblane Primary School on 13 March 1996 : the government response

This report sets out the government response to the findings and recommendations of the Cullen Inquiry following the shootings at Dunblane Primary School by Thomas Hamilton on 13 March 1996. Comment is made on: recommendations on the certification system relating to Section 1 firearms; police powers and the legal responsibilities of licensed gun or firearms clubs; restriction of the availability of Section 1 firearms and amendment of existing firearms legislation accordingly.

Living well with dementia: a national dementia strategy: a briefing from a housing perspective
