Grow your own: how local authorities can support social enterprise

From April 2010 to March 2011 the Young Foundation led the Supporting Local Social enterprise action research project, commissioned by the Department for Communities and Local Government and the office for Civil Society. The aim was to support local authorities to better understand and develop their local social enterprise sector by working in 10 areas.

Family justice review: final report

Final report, which reflects conclusions following well over 600 responses to our consultation and input from meetings in many parts of the country. We have also had the benefit of the Justice Select Committee's report on the operation of the family courts, published in July. This final report aims to be a free standing document but does not analyse the issues facing the family justice system in the detail of the interim report. It sets out final recommendations for reform, highlighting where these have changed and where they have not.

Edging away from care: how services successfully prevent young people entering care

Report that analyses a small sample of local authorities and their partner agencies and looks at how services successfully support young people who are at risk of entering care to remain living at home.

It draws on the experiences and views of 43 families, including those of the young people themselves, their parents or carers and the key professionals and managers who were involved in coordinating and providing support services.

Allegations of abuse against teachers and non-teaching staff: interim findings from a survey of local authority designated officers

Research brief that presents the interim findings of the research based on evidence from a census survey of LADOs in 2011. The survey collected data on allegations of abuse made against teachers, non-teaching staff in schools and further education (FE) teachers referred to LADOs in the period 1st April 2009 to 31st March 2010.

Questions explored the number and nature of allegations referred, investigative action taken, time taken to conduct investigations and outcomes.

Workforce development scie guide 38 : social care governance: a workbook based on practice in England

This workbook is based on practice in Somerset and Bath. Twelve multi-disciplinary teams across Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset completed a series of workshops examining the core elements of practice. The teams spent one hour on each core element to look at identifying good practice, improving practice and feeding back areas for development at an organisational level. Action plans at team and organisational level were developed to implement changes to practice.

Statistical release that provides provisional figures on the number of children referred to and assessed to be in need by Local Authority Social Care Services and the number of children who were the subject of a child protection plan for the year ending 31 March 2011.

Turning around the lives of families with multiple problems: an evaluation of the Family and Young Carer Pathfinders Programme

The evidence from this study presents a compelling case for local authorities and their partners to develop and implement intensive family intervention with families with multiple and complex needs. Whilst funding for the Pathfinders formally ended in 2010, four fifths of the Family Pathfinder and Young Carer Pathfinders are being sustained in some form. The current government is supporting national and local activity to turn around the lives of families with multiple problems.
