Partner exploitation and violence in teenage intimate relationships

Report of a study which aimed to examine in depth young people's experiences of partner violence and the best ways to respond to this problem. The study used a broad definition of violence which encompassed emotional, verbal, physical and sexual forms of violence. These were studied both in isolation and as they co-exist within young people's relationships.

Report on young offenders in adult establishments

This is a report on an inspection of the conditions in which male and female young offenders are held and the treatment they receive in smaller units within adult establishments in Scotland. The inspection took place in November 2008. The report covers young offenders in Friarton Hall (Perth Prison), Darroch Hall (Green Prison) and Bruce House (Cornton Vale Prison). A number of observations are noted and some recommendations are made for Bruce House.

Unlocking innovation : why citizens hold the key to public service reform (Demos collection 24)

Collection of papers focusing on the theme of renewing and refocusing understanding of innovation. It explores the notion that everyday interactions between people and public services are a potential source of new ideas and that public services should be developed through participation and co-production.

Living with social evils – the voices of unheard groups

In a contribution to the JRF's 'social evils' series, Chris Creegan focuses on the social evils of British society experienced by people whose voices are not usually heard. The research used workshops/discussion groups with lone parents, ex-offenders, unemployed and other vulnerable and socially excluded people to explore their personal experiences of living and coping with social evils. Suggestions for overcoming them point to both individual and collective responsibility.

Boarding school provision for vulnerable children: pathfinder evaluation

This is an evaluation report of the Boarding Provision for Vulnerable Children Pathfinder announced in the white paper 'Higher standards, better schools for all' (2005). The Pathfinder was intended to explore whether boarding school provision might be used to provide support, stability and improved life chances for a larger number of vulnerable children and young people. Ten local authorities and fifty boarding schools originally signed up to the Pathfinder.
