Aspirations three years on: the views of young people who are fostered and their carers

Study that focused on young people’s experiences of being fostered and their foster carers’ assessment of factors that contribute to these experiences. It looked in detail at a range of specific areas covering their health and wellbeing; education and participation outcomes; their involvement in activities; their life skills; and their connections with past and present family and friends.

Improving housing outcomes for young people: practical ideas

This paper presents 27 practical examples drawn from the housing sector which seek to improve housing outcomes for young people; focuses on detailed work in Northamptonshire, but draws on case studies from across the UK; and shares ideas for possible replication.

It was produced as one output from a three-year programme of research and development aiming to achieve better housing outcomes for young people in the UK.

"Trying to get by": consulting with children and young people on child poverty

To help ensure the 2011 strategy takes the perspectives of children and young people with direct experience of poverty into account, the Office of the Children’s Commissioner commissioned the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) to convene the discussion groups reported on here.

This report is based on consultation events held with children and young people in five locations across England.

Scotland's child internet safety action plan

The Scottish Government is taking steps which will improve the safety of our children and young people in the online environment. This plan outlines a series of actions which can help meet this aspiration.

It builds on the UK-wide Strategy for Child Internet Safety published in December 2009 and will, once implemented, help to make young people’s approach to the internet more safe and responsible. The plan has been developed in partnership with a dedicated Scottish Stakeholder Group.

Intensive supervision, surveillance and monitoring of young people (IRISS Insights, no.9)

One of a series of reports providing the social services workforce with brief, accessible and practice-oriented summaries of published evidence on key topics. Developed through a process of rapid appraisal, Insights seek to highlight the practice implications of research evidence and answer the 'So what does this mean in practice?' question for each topic reviewed. This Insight looks at intensive supervision, surveillance and monitoring of young people.
