Findings indicate that racially discriminatory practices are widespread, institutional in nature and practiced at all levels of society across Europe.

Systematic review of beliefs, behaviours and influencing factors associated with disclosure of a mental health problem in the workplace

Paper that reviews evidence on: employment-related disclosure beliefs and behaviours of people with a mental health problem; factors associated with the disclosure of a mental health problem in the employment setting; whether employers are less likely to hire applicants who disclose a mental health problem; and factors influencing employers’ hiring beliefs and behaviours towards job applicants with a mental health problem.

Close to home: an inquiry into older people and human rights in home care

Report of an Inquiry to find out whether the human rights of older people wanting or receiving care in their ownhomes in England are fully promoted and protected. There has never been a systematic inquiry into the human rights of older people receiving or requiring home-based care and support.

Although far more older people receive home care than either residential or nursing care, the human rights of older people in residential and hospital care have received much more attention.

Time to change

Time to Change is England's biggest ever attempt to end the stigma and discrimination that faces people with mental health problems.
It is a campaign to change attitudes, and behaviour too. This leading stigma and anti-discrimination campaign is run by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness. The campaign is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and Comic Relief and is evaluated by the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College, London.

Scottish social attitudes survey 2010: attitudes to discrimination and positive action

Report that presents key findings from a study of public attitudes towards discrimination and positive action. Based on data from the Scottish Social Attitudes survey (SSA), the study aimed to:

• Measure the extent and character of discriminatory attitudes in Scotland in 2010
• Assess the extent of support for positive action to try and achieve equality for different groups
• Examine how attitudes have changed over time.

Religious discrimination in Britain: a review of research evidence, 2000-10

Commissioned report by Equality and Human Rights Commission that aims to identify and review:

  • Quantitative and qualitative evidence of religious discrimination
  • Any evidence about whether religious discrimination is increasing or decreasing
  • Any differences in evidence between England, Wales and Scotland
  • 'Islamophobia' as a frame of reference for discrimination against Muslims
  • Gaps in the existing research and statistical evidence.

Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance

The Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance (SIAA) was set up as a result of the work undertaken by its predecessor, Advocacy 2000, a three-year project set up to look at the needs of the Advocacy Movement in Scotland, and how these could be supported in the future. The SIAA is devoted to the promotion, support and defence of Independent Advocacy in Scotland. It is a membership organisation that has the overall aim of ensuring that Independent advocacy is available to any vulnerable person in Scotland.

See Me Scotland

The 'see me' campaign was launched in October 2002 to challenge stigma and discrimination around mental ill-health in Scotland. The campaign is run by an alliance of five Scottish mental health organisations: Highland Users Group (HUG); National Schizophrenia Fellowship (Scotland); Penumbra; the Royal College of Psychiatrists (Scottish Division) and the Scottish Association for Mental Health.
