Poverty and income inequality in Scotland: 2009-10

This publication presents annual estimates of the proportion and number of children, working age adults and pensioners living in low income households in Scotland and the distribution of household income across Scotland.

The estimates are used to monitor progress towards UK and Scottish Government targets to reduce poverty and income inequality. The data published for the first time here are for the financial year April 2009 to March 2010.

Social networks: their role in addressing poverty

Paper commissioned to inform the work of the JRF poverty and ethnicity programme, which aims to understand the underlying reasons for variations in low income and deprivation among different ethnic groups in the UK and the problems caused. It also aims to contribute towards solutions to these problems.

The report explains what social networks are, and their benefits; explores how social networks can help address poverty and be made more accessible; and discusses the impacts of government spending cuts on social networks.

"Trying to get by": consulting with children and young people on child poverty

To help ensure the 2011 strategy takes the perspectives of children and young people with direct experience of poverty into account, the Office of the Children’s Commissioner commissioned the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) to convene the discussion groups reported on here.

This report is based on consultation events held with children and young people in five locations across England.
