Good and innovative practice in service delivery to vulnerable and disadvantaged families and children

Paper that is an overview of an analysis of the Vulnerable and Disadvantaged Client Access Strategies (Access Strategies) in Australia, a requirement of service providers funded by the Family Support Program (FSP).

Organisations were asked to document and implement the steps they would take to improve service accessibility and responsiveness for vulnerable and disadvantaged families, including Indigenous families.

Innovations in prevention

Paper that starts by introducing prevention, outlining the current spending on preventative measures, the benefits of these, and also potential limitations. The second section of the paper outlines the stages involved in developing a preventative strategy. These are introduced sequentially, but care should be taken not to interpret them as a fixed chronology. The author argues that there is no blueprint available for developing and implementing a successful preventative strategy.

Doing services differently: local innovations for disabled people and their families

Report commissioned by Scope that is informed by the ideas and reflections of disabled people and the actions that commissioners and providers are taking. It argues that by focusing on innovation as a force for social change, local authorities and the voluntary sector can together improve the lives of disabled people and their families. It celebrates social innovation in local services, showcasing and sharing ideas that better enable disabled people to lead social change.

One of three related papers which explore the distinctive contribution which the not-for-profit sector makes to social care. It explores the importance of innovation in the design, delivery and funding of services, andshows how the not-for-profit sector is responding effectively to the need for new approaches to the delivery of social care.

Innovation: living together

Fim that highlights two innovative approaches to meeting people's accommodation needs.

The first is an example of ‘Shared Lives', a service provided by individuals and families in local communities who offer accommodation and support in their family home to people who are unable to live independently.

The second is ‘Home Share', a simple way of helping people to help each other. The film shows two people with different sets of needs, both of whom also have something to offer each other.
