What's going on to safeguard children and young people from sexual exploitation? How local partnerships respond to child sexual exploitation

Research project that has explored the extent and nature of the response of LSCBs to the 2009 government guidance on safeguarding children and young people from sexual exploitation .

Where the guidance is followed, there are examples of developing and innovative practice to protect and support young people and their families and to investigate and prosecute their abusers.

It finds that the delivery of that dual approach to child sexual exploitation is far from the norm.

Study that presents a critical, thematic analysis of recommendations from 33 of the serious case reviews (cases of child death or serious injury through abuse or neglect) completed in 2009-2010.

The central aim of the study was to consider what part recommendations can play in aiding agencies and individuals "to learn lessons to improve the way in which they work both individually and collectively to safeguard and promote the welfare of children" (HM Government 2010:246).

It aimed to gather the views of children and young people living with their parents, who all had a child protection plan in place. The research comes during a period when the child protection system in England is being reviewed.

Scotland's child internet safety action plan

The Scottish Government is taking steps which will improve the safety of our children and young people in the online environment. This plan outlines a series of actions which can help meet this aspiration.

It builds on the UK-wide Strategy for Child Internet Safety published in December 2009 and will, once implemented, help to make young people’s approach to the internet more safe and responsible. The plan has been developed in partnership with a dedicated Scottish Stakeholder Group.
