Care and support needs of men who survived childhood sexual abuse

Report of a Scottish qualitative research project with adult male survivors of childhood sexual abuse. The aim is to improve male survivors' wellbeing, through establishing their perspectives on their major care, support and intervention need throughout the lifecourse; and by making and disseminating a report with recommendations, to improve services and preventive action across all sectors.

Poverty in the media: Being seen and getting heard

Public understanding of poverty in the UK is limited. The media can give people with experience of poverty the opportunity to present their views, experiences and opinions, which can help to inform and create a groundswell of public opinion supporting efforts to tackle poverty. This study examines how people with direct experience of poverty in the UK can have a more effective voice in the media. Presentation of their views and experiences through media channels and help to shape and develop public opinion and build support for action to combat poverty.

Sweet 16?: one year on - is life any sweeter?

On 25 March 2008, the Commissioner for Children and Young People in Scotland laid before the Scottish Parliament a report called Sweet 16? The Age of Leaving Care in Scotland. It was debated on 25 June 2008. The Scottish Government has responded positively to most of the report’s recommendations, which are attached as an appendix to this paper, together with a short summary of the full report. In January 2009, a feedback survey was circulated to local authorities to help identify progress on the issues raised in Sweet 16? and also what more needed to be done.

Overview of mental health services

Report that provides an overview of mental health services across Scotland and is the first in a series of planned reports in this area. Audit Scotland has carried out an overview to highlight areas for improvement and to identify priorities for future audit work. The report looks at mental health services provided by the NHS, councils, prisons, the police and the voluntary sector across Scotland for people of all ages.

Joint inspection of services to protect children and young people in the Renfrewshire Council area

The inspection of services to protect children in the East Renfrewshire Council area took place between October and November 2007. It covered the range of services and staff working in the area who had a role in protecting children. As part of the inspection process, inspectors reviewed practice through reading a sample of files held by services who work to protect children living in the area. Some of the children and families in the sample met and talked to inspectors about the services they had received.

Equally different: report on the situation of older lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgendered people in Thanet, Kent

This report has been compiled by 'Opening Doors in Thanet', a group of older people living in the Isle of Thanet, who are aware of and want to help service-providers understand the difficulties, and improve the lives, of Lesbian, Gay Bi-sexual and Transgendered (LGBT) older people. It is based on the results of a questionnaire sent out to sheltered housing providers, residential homes, nursing homes, care companies and day centres catering for the older population of Thanet.
