Young people and civil justice : findings from the 2004 English and Welsh Civil and Social Justice Survey

Summary report presenting findings relating to young people's experience of and response to 18 broad types of civil law problem. It particularly looks at the role of social isolation on problem experience by considering separately the experience of young respondents living apart from their parents or any other adult over the age of 24.

The Scottish Government is establishing two new improvement and scrutiny bodies for healthcare and for social care and social work. These changes, which are part of a wider simplification of the public sector, should lead to improvements and better checking of health, social care and social work services in Scotland. This conference was organised to make sure that the views of people who use services and of equality groups could be heard. The conference had two main purposes: to tell people about the changes; and to hear the views of the people affected.

Justice denied: a summary of our investigation into the care and treatment of Ms A

Ms A is a 67 year old woman with a learning disability who has been in the care of the local authority since she was eight years old. This investigation into Ms A’s care was initiated in September 2006, after the Mental Welfare Commission was contacted by a housing association who were concerned about her vulnerability. They said Ms A had reported being raped. When they contacted the police, they discovered that similar assaults were alleged to have taken place previously.
