The effectiveness of parent training interventions in improving problem behaviours among disabled children

This is a summary of a review that identified research studies on the effectiveness of behavioural interventions for disabled children with behavioural problems. The findings on intervention outcomes are discussed in the broad areas of interventions on behaviour management skills only; interventions on behaviour management skills and the parent-child relationships; interventions on behaviour management and teaching skills; interventions on behaviour management skills and understanding the condition; and an overview of the significant effects for each intervention.

Early years, life chances and equality: a literature review

Reviews recent literature on how early years experiences may impact on life chances for different groups of the population. Life chances can cover a range of opportunities that people can experience as they become adults and into their later life. These opportunities include, for example, the likelihood of being in employment over individuals’ lifetimes, the chances of obtaining educational qualifications and the chances of good physical and mental health.

Effectiveness of the new Local Safeguarding Children Boards in England: interim report

A large scale study was conducted to examine whether Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCBs) have successful in overcoming some of the weaknesses in Area Child Protection Committees. This interim report draws upon research undertaken over the first 12 months (January 2008 - January 2009) of the research study.

Walsall Safeguarding Children Board case review executive summary: child P

Briefly presents the background to the case of eighteen month old P who was removed from his parents along with his 4 year old sister and placed with foster carers after allegations of extreme domestic violence. P later suffered serious permanent brain damage whilst in the care of foster carers. The executive summary then presents the findings and recommendations from the case review.
