Autism spectrum disorder awareness

The Autism Resource Centre (ARC) which is run by Glasgow City Council provides Autism awareness training opportunities for Glasgow City Council staff, other agencies, parents, carers and stakeholders. The ARC has developed and produced an innovative learning experience which provides Autism awareness as seen through the eyes of a young person with Aspergers Syndrome called Aspen. This course gives the information and knowledge to help you understand the strengths, differences and difficulties of those on the Autism Spectrum.

Getting on? Growing older with autism

Paper that sets out the challenges facing people with autism in older age - as reported by them and by the people who support them. It also suggests how changes to central and local government policy can help to meet these challenges and so help all older adults with autism to lead the life they choose.

The report is based on interviews, focus groups and surveys with older people with autism and their families, as well as on the outcome of two parliamentary evidence sessions during which a panel of peers (the Commission) heard evidence from a variety of experts.

Learning disabilities, autism and internet safety: a parent's guide

Guide that outlines some suggestions to help parents limit the risk of their child having negative experiences online and understand what action can be taken if they do.

This guide also suggests some resources that will help children get the most out of the Internet at home and in the community. It presents some case studies of actual experiences people with learning disabilities and autism have had online and learning points that can be taken from these experiences.

Another way: transforming peoples' lives through good practice in adult social care

Good practice report which offers snapshots - case studies from VODG member organisations - depicting the core issues that help improve the lives of vulnerable people.

The group of people that concerns this report include those with severe and complex needs, with sensory impairments or who have a autistic spectrum disorder.

Improving access to social care for adults with autism

Guide that looks at how social care services can improve access to adults with autism.

It is based on research that explores the barriers to services experienced by people with autism. It covers people with autism, whether or not they also have a learning disability.

The guide suggests ways services can improve, identifying how best to meet the goals of the government's autism strategy.

The Scottish strategy for autism

This first chapter is a free-standing condensed version of the strategy which provides readers with an overview of what autism is and the challenges which individuals with the condition and their families face in everyday life. It then describes how the autism strategy will address their needs over the next 10 years.

Chapter two provides more detailed information on the issues contained in the overview for those who want to take more time to understand the issues in greater depth. It explains the context behind each of the recommendations and why these are critical to success.
