Social care (Fourteenth report of session 2010-12)

The purpose of the inquiry has been to consider the issues facing the future of social care, and to make recommendations for consideration by the Government in advance of publication of its White Paper on social care and update on funding.

Although the report focuses particularly on those people aged 65 and older, many of the recommendations are equally relevant to services for younger people who have a disability, and other people who have long-term conditions.

Short breaks services statements: commitment and transparency

Report that looks at local authority compliance with the Short Break Duty through analysing 55 short breaks services statements that have been sent to EDCM from local authorities.

It aims to identify good practice and also to explore what further guidance it may be helpful to provide local authorities with to enable them to fully meet the requirements of the Duty and the needs of local disabled children and their families.

The impact of long-term care on caregivers' participation in the labour market

Paper that analyses the impact of long-term care on informal caregivers’ status in the labour market. It focuses on people’s perceptions that their labour activity is hindered partially or totally by their care-giving commitments. It uses the Eurostat ECHP dataset 1994-2001, which includes some questions specifically aimed to investigate whether people suffer care-giving constraints; this information allows for overcoming the endogeneity problem due to the double relationship between labour market participation and care-giving

Stroke4carers [stroke carer training]

The website was published by Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland. The project has been developed with the National Advisory Committee for Stroke, University of Edinburgh and funded by Big Lottery Fund Scotland. The site is for carers, family and friends of anyone affected by stroke illness. This e-learning resource provides a set of topics which which will provide on-line advice, support and information for informal carers. There are a range of topics including information about stroke, practical advice for carers, advice about finance and legal issues, support for carers and carers rights

Company initiatives for workers with care responsibilities for disabled children or adults

Report that presents the results of Eurofound’s work on company initiatives for workers with care responsibilities for disabled children or adults.

The research focused on initiatives that employers can take to support the needs of workers who have (informal) care responsibilities, including parents caring for children with disabilities and carers of adults who need care because of disability, illness or old age.

SCIE report 42: ‘we are more than our story’: service user and carer participation in social work education

This report draws on the views of service users and carers from the Social Work Education Participation (SWEP) website steering group and members of the General Social Care Council (GSCC) Visitors group who inspect social work programmes with GSCC inspectors. Report published by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) in July 2011. Review date is July 2014.
