The MCA Code of Practice says that the IMCA safeguard is intended for ‘those people who have little or no network of support, such as close family or friends, who take an interest in their welfare or no one willing or able to be formally consulted in decision-making processes’ (10.74). It provides guidance about when an IMCA should be instructed in cases where a person has some contact with family or friends

Knowledge reviews pull together knowledge from research, practice and people who use services. They describe what knowledge is available, highlight the evidence that has emerged and draw practice points from the evidence. Topics include residential child care, adult mental health services, improving social and health care services, social work education and looked-after children.

A one-stop shop for social care practitioners, presenting key findings, current legislation and examples of what is working well to guide and inform practice. Topics include mental health; children, young people and families; disability; fostering; and older people.

Shared living schemes are one way of providing more personalised services. They offer care and support to people who use services, usually older people and those with learning disabilities, in family homes. This At a glance presents the key messages from the SCIE study, 'Improving outcome for service users in adult placement - commissioning and care management', drawing out the messages for local authority managers, care managers and commissioners.

Targeted youth support pathfinders evaluation: final report

This report presents the findings from the evaluation of the Targeted Youth Support Pathfinders (TYSPs). The policy was developed by the Department for Children, Schools and Families to ensure that young people in need of support receive a genuinely personalised package of support, at the earliest possible opportunity. The evaluation was designed to capture the impact of the service reforms at the level of infrastructure, professional working practices, individual young people and overall outcomes.

Improving the patient experience: sharing success in mental health and learning disabilities - the King's Fund's Enhancing the Healing Environment programme

This publication celebrates the successes of 47 schemes completed by the 46 NHS Trusts in England who took part in the King's Fund's Enhancing the Healing Environment, a nurse-led environmental improvement programme to improve the environment in which they delivered care. Through the programme, the Department of Health and The King's Fund hoped to raise awareness and understanding among NHS staff about how to bring about practical, value-for-money environmental improvements.
