Children's hearing system: secondary teaching pack

These materials are intended to support teachers and pupils through their learning about the Children’s Hearings system. In preparing these, the aim has been to provide materials for use in the classroom within the PSE, Citizenship and Modern Studies curricula which will provide accurate information about the Hearings system and help pupils to gain a better understanding of the key issues.

The Scottish Children's Reporter Administration (SCRA) is the national body responsible for providing a world class care and justice system for all Scotland's children. SCRA became fully operational on 1st April 1996 and their main responsibilities are; to facilitate the work of Children's Reporters; to deploy and manage staff to carry out that work; and to provide suitable accommodation for Children's Hearings.

The Kilbrandon report

The Kilbrandon report was, and still remains, one of the most influential policy statements on how a society should deal with 'children in trouble'. Though it is now over thirty years since it was first published, current debate about child care practices and polices in Scotland still resonates with principles and philosophies derived from the Kilbrandon Report itself.
