Document setting out the UK Government's approach to tackling violence against women and girls. It is an approach which moves beyond just the criminal justice system and includes roles for all relevant public sector organisations such as central government departments, local government and the voluntary sector.
This study examined the prevalence and structural correlates of gender based violence against female sex workers in an environment of criminalised prostitution in Canada. The results demonstrate an alarming prevalence of gender based violence against female sex workers. The structural factors of criminalisation, homelessness, and poor availability of drug treatment independently correlated with gender based violence against street based female sex workers.
This episode of Radio 4's Thinking Allowed series includes a segment on the female sex industry. Prostitution, an industry reckoned to be worth more than £770m a year in the UK, employing an estimated 80, 000 women in Britain, is scheduled for its first comprehensive overhaul in fifty years.
This guidance is for police, health, social services, education and all other agencies and professionals that may work with children about whom there are concerns that they are involved in prostitution. It sets out an inter-agency approach, based on local protocols developed within the framework of Working Together to Safeguard Children (Department of Health et al, 1999; National Assembly for Wales, 2000), to address this type of abuse.
The media plays a valuable role in informing the public about HIV and AIDS. However, some terms which can be misleading about HIV/AIDS, or degrading to HIV-positive people, are not helpful. This factsheet discusses how vital it is that the National AIDS Trust's texts and presentations support the objectives of the 'Are you HIV prejudiced?' campaign by not using stigmatising language and terminology.
Report presenting the findings of a scoping study which reviewed completed and current research, and research gaps, relating to the sexual well-being of defined vulnerable and hard-to-reach groups in Scotland. The review was intended to facilitate the identification of priorities for future sexual health research in Scotland.
This consultation paper outlines why the needs of young runaways and children involved in sexual exploitation through prostitution are important and looks at the preventative work which is being taken forward to address the underlying issues which may increase a child’s vulnerability.
The provision of services to support children and young people is also discussed.
This factsheet discusses the HIV-related stigma and discrimination that sex workers face. They are marginalised and stigmatised because of their work and the fact that prostitution is still criminalised. Many sex workers are further marginalised because of their race or their sexuality, drug taking behaviour and poverty. All these factors increase stigmatisation experienced by sex workers and make them extremely vulnerable to HIV infection.
