Improving and safeguarding social wellbeing: a strategy for social work in Northern Ireland 2012-2022

Strategy that has a particular focus on social work in the Health and Social Care (HSC) System which is where the majority of social workers are employed. It is intended as a guide for social workers, their employers, commissioners, education providers and regulators.

Criminal justice, education, youth justice, voluntary and private organisations are also important employers of social workers and this strategy and its proposals will support social workers in these sectors.

Health and wellbeing boards: system leaders or talking shops?

Report that forms part of a wider programme of work being carried out by The King’s Fund on health and wellbeing boards. The programme has supported several local authorities and their health partners to develop their shadow boards. As part of the programme, in late 2011, a survey of 50 local authority areas was conducted, covering all regions of England to find out how they and their health partners are implementing the new boards. Telephone interviews were conducted in September and October 2011 with lead officers identified by local authorities themselves.

Delivering children's services in the UK and other parts of the world - a short policy context

Paper that aims to articulate the variety of models for children’s services delivery that exist internationally and places these in the context of current UK policy and practice. The key sections present outlines of the different policy and service provision approaches to children’s services in the UK and the top performing OECD countries. This latter group comprises the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden), and the Netherlands. Brief reference is made to other countries, where appropriate.

Promoting positive well-being for children: a report for decision-makers in parliament, central government and local areas

Report that highlights six priorities for improving the subjective well-being of our children. It sets out each priority and explains why they all matter for children and families.

It makes a compelling case for understanding and measuring the subjective well-being of children, and gives advice for decision-makers in formulating and evaluating the impact of policy on children’s well-being.

Missing out: a child centred analysis of material deprivation and subjective well-being

Research which included focus groups, piloting work and a nationally representative schools survey of 5,500 young people aged 8 to 15 that demonstrates that asking children about a list of material items and experiences that are derived from discussions with them is a good way of finding out about their material well-being.
