Domestic abuse: a draft training strategy

The focus of this draft strategy is on identifying training and development activity required to support improvement in services to women and children who are experiencing domestic abuse, and to men who use violence.

It is based on increasing capacity to deliver training and providing national co-ordination of training on domestic abuse. This training strategy is set out in 6 sections: context, aims of the training strategy; requirements of the training strategy; taking the strategy forward; capacity building; and an action plan.

Getting it right for every child: children and young people's experiences of advocacy support and participation in the Children's Hearings System

This research project was commissioned by the Scottish Executive to find out how advocacy for children in the Children’s Hearings System compares with arrangements in other UK systems of child welfare and youth justice and those internationally, and what children and young people and the professionals who work with them think about advocacy arrangements in the Children’s Hearings System and how these can be improved.

Supporting young people leaving care in Scotland

This guidance is designed to help local authorities provide integrated services for young people leaving care. This consultation paper sets out the draft Support and Assistance of Young People Leaving Care (Scotland) Regulations 2004 and accompanying guidance. These documents will implement changes to the provision of services for young people preparing to leave and those who have left local authority care in Scotland from the 1st of April 2004.

Response to consultation on the framework for the registration of health and adult social care providers and consultation on draft regulations

Document that presents the government’s response to the consultation held during spring 2008 on the new registration framework to be introduced from 2010.

The main purpose of the registration framework is independent assurance of the safety and quality of care. All providers of regulated activities will need to register with the new Care Quality Commission and meet the same essential standards, whether they are public, private or third sector.

The physical punishment of children in Scotland: a consultation

The purpose of this consultation paper is to explore how the law relating to the physical punishment of children can be modernised, so that it better protects children from harm. The aim of the consultation is to address two specific issues. First, within the context of a modern family policy, in a responsible society, where should we draw the line as to what physical punishment of children is acceptable within the family setting? Second, how do we achieve that position in law?
