Is the harm still hidden? Inconsistent responses to Hidden Harm in specialist addiction services

The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) report Hidden Harm (2003) outlined key deficits in the provision of services to pregnant drug users, drug using parents and to the children of drug using parents, while highlighting the extent of child exposure to parental drug use. In 2007, a follow-up report assessed what had changed in the intervening period focusing on examples of good practice and positive change. This paper is based on the results from a follow-up postal survey of managers of specialist drug services in the UK.

The Strategic Isolation of the British Drugs Field and new Recovery Philosophy.

In March 2008, a new 10 year national drugs strategy document was published: Drugs: protecting families and communities. This new drug strategy presents an agenda which strongly reinforces the main points of the last strategy with its emphasis on crime reduction and community safety. Like its predecessor, it says less about individual health and social outcomes. In the same month the United Kingdom Drug Policy Commission, (UKDPC), an independent think tank, published a major report on the drugs strategy and its key focus criminal justice.

UK Drug Rehab

UK Drug Rehab is a directory of drug addiction treatment centres, drug rehab organisations and service providers within the United Kingdom. "UK-Rehab.Com is a privately funded, non-profit making project that aims to provide free, unbiased information on drug addiction, alcoholism, substance abuse and rehabilitation." The Drug Info section provides general facts on drug abuse and detailed information on specific drugs. There is also a section on the role of the family.

Clinical guidelines for implementing relapse prevention therapy

Guidelines developed for the Behavioral Health Recovery Management Project. Relapse Prevention Therapy is based on a cognitive-behavioural model of the relapse process. This approach focuses on the immediate precipitating circumstances of relapse as well as on the chain of events that may precede and set-up a relapse.

Integrated Care for Drug Users : principles and practice
