Statistical bulletin which presents national level information on activity relating to community penalties in Scotland, derived from Local Authority Social Work management information systems.

It provides information on various aspects of criminal justice social work such as Social Enquiry Reports (SERs), Community Service Orders (CSOs), Probation Orders (POs), Supervised Attendance Orders (SAOs) and Drug Treatment and Testing Orders (DTTOs).

Serious violent and sexual offenders: the use of risk assessment tools in Scotland

This report is organised into six chapters and explores a range of issues including the approaches to risk assessment by different professional groups and the progress of validation in respect of the different risk assessment tools in use. Comment is made on risk assessment in action, who carries out risk assessments, how they are carried out and the mechanisms that are in place to ensure a consistent approach to risk assessment within organisations.

Risk assessment and management of serious violent and sexual offenders: a review of current issues

This report reviews the literature relating to the assessment and management of sex offenders and serious violent offenders, and therefore requiring special measures.

It is aimed at those in the criminal justice, social work and other agencies who play an active part in risk assessment and risk management.

The report covers four broad areas: the background policy, legislative proposals and provisions covering sexual and violent offenders; risk assessment methods; the current tools available in this area for these offender groups; and risk management.
