Progress report: moving towards a child centred system - the Munro Review of Child Protection

Report that considers how well implementation of the recommendations of the review has progressed in the year since the review’s publication, and how the child protection landscape as a whole is changing. The overall conclusion of the report is that progress is moving in the right direction but that it needs to move faster. There are promising signs that some reforms are encouraging new ways of thinking and working and so improving services for children.

Out from the shadows: sexual violence against children with disabilities

Report that sheds light on children with disabilities who are suffering from sexual violence - abuse that goes unacknowledged, both by communities and by the state; is shrouded in taboos; and is rarely discussed or investigated. The report seeks to address this and make the issue more visible, as well as challenge governments and communities, including the international community, to tackle it head on.

Empowering vulnerable children and their parents using Talking Mats

Case study which describes the use of Talking Mats at Stenhouse Child and Family Centre (Edinburgh City Council) with very young, vulnerable children and their parents.

Talking Mats is a low-tech communication tool originally developed by the Alternative and Augmentative Communication Research Unit to support people with communication impairment including those with stroke, learning disability and dementia.
