National risk framework to support the assessment of children and young people

Guidance that aims to support and assist practitioners at all levels in every agency, to be able to approach the task of risk identification, assessment, analysis and management with more confidence and competence.

It seeks to provide tools that, if used, support methodical and systematic approaches to not only better understanding risk and its presentation with children and families, but also enhance interventions and potential outcomes.

Paper that gives a brief outline of the principles which govern the care and protection of children by public authorities, the main legislation and guidance in the area of children‟s hearings and local authority child protection systems together with some key statistics.

Protecting disabled children: thematic inspection

Thematic inspection which was commissioned to evaluate the effectiveness of work to protect disabled children and young people at all stages from early support to the identification of and response to child protection concerns.

It examined the actions taken to ensure the protection of disabled children and young people, identifying the key factors which promoted effective protection and the barriers to achieving this.

Meeting children's needs for care and protection

The core aim of the series was to draw together national and international knowledge and professional, policy and research expertise in relation to the management, evaluation and research of everyday multiprofessional intervention to safeguard children. It comprised two linked elements.

The first focused on the issues involved in using adminstrative data routinely collected on children safeguarded in the community to better inform planning and delivery and research.

The impact of more flexible assessment practices in response to the Munro Review of Child Protection: emerging findings from the trials

A piece of rapid response work between April and July 2012 to independently evaluate the impact that the flexibilities granted to the trial authorities have had on practice and service responses to safeguard children from harm.

Threat assessment of child sexual exploitation and abuse

Assessment which represents the most up-to-date understanding of the current level of threat posed by child sexual exploitation and abuse. It takes into account information received by CEOP from industry, the public and law enforcement. This engagement with partners allows for current threats to be outlined and for the identification of areas in need of greater understanding.
