How to use this learning object
This is the help page for this learning object. It sets out to give you some advice on the best way to approach your study of the object.
Overview
Building and maintaining working relationships with service users and carers, professionals and other key individuals - and organisations - lies at the heart of good social work practice. As practitioners, we communicate a great deal in what we say, how we dress and in our body language and these factors often have a profound bearing on the quality of the relationships that we create.
This learning object looks at the benefits that are gained from the relationships that are built within social work.
You will read accounts from service users and carers who describe how the relationships that were created helped them to deal with the difficulties they faced.
You will also view information about what is communicated in the personal qualities and professional attributes that practitioners bring, and look at the important boundaries within which professional relationships operate, sometimes described as the 'professional use of self'.
