Facts and figures about Scotland's children and young people : factfile 2006-07

This is the sixth edition of Factfile Scotland, the unique annual collection of key facts and information focusing on Scotland’s children and young people, produced by NCH Scotland. NCH Scotland’s aim in producing Factfile Scotland is to provide a publication that government, local authorities, academics, the voluntary sector and other agencies will all find equally useful as a source for key facts about children, families and young people in Scotland.

Gypsies/Travellers in Scotland: the twice yearly count No. 15 January 2009

In July 1998, the former Scottish Executive introduced a series of twice yearly counts of this population (undertaken in January and July) to establish standardised and consistent estimates across Scotland. The purpose of the count is to better understand the characteristics of this population and to assist and inform the development of public policies and services for Gypsies/Travellers, both nationally and locally.

NHS Smoking Cessation Service statistics (Scotland) 1st January to 31st December 2008

Report providing a statistical analysis of the NHS smoking cessation services uptake and outcomes in Scotland during the year 2008. The information used comes from the agreed national minimum dataset for smoking cessation services and is based on 'quit attempts' made during the year.

Drug-related deaths in Scotland 2007

This was an annual paper, which provided statistics of drug-related deaths that were registered in Scotland over the period from 1996 to 2007. The figures were produced using a definition of "drug-related deaths" which was introduced in 2001 for the "baseline" figures for the UK Drugs Strategy.

West Lothian Child Protection Committee Annual Report 2005 – 2006

The Child Protection Committee (CPC) is the lynchpin in implementing strategic plans at local level. In this report the CPC has, in accordance with the National Guidance on Child Protection Committees – Protecting Children and Young People 2005 (Appendix 2), given an account of its work in the previous year, demonstrated the quality of inter-agency co-operation in undertaking the work of the Committee, and presented a business plan for the coming year.

Abuse and Disabled Children

This course is a mixture of didactic input and case scenario exercises. It also includes a PowerPoint presentation called 'A Multi Agency Understanding of Child Protection Related to Disability'. The course offers information on the current state of knowledge about the abuse of disabled children and the challenges of their adequate protection. There is then an opportunity for participants to make use of this knowledge using some brief case scenarios. Exercise can last approximately 2.5 hours and is appropriate for groups of 8-25.
