Young refugees : setting up mentoring schemes for young refugees in the UK

This guide is an introduction to mentoring and befriending schemes for young refugees. Mentoring is commonly seen as a way of supporting young people to meet their education, training and employment aspirations. Befriending tends to concentrate more on supporting a young person emotionally, having someone to talk to and have fun with. There is, however, much overlap between the two models and in this guide the terms ‘mentoring’ and ‘mentor’ are also used to describe ‘befriending’ schemes and the role of the ‘befriender.’ This guide provides a 10-step plan to setting up and running a mentoring scheme.
