This report describes a project that sought to analyse and evaluate a particular academic course unit entitled 'Skills development and theorising practice', which ran in 2002-2003 as part of the old Diploma in Social Work. The aim was to gain a greater understanding of how student development could be facilitated in these key areas of practice.
The context is the expectation in the new social work degree that students will be able to integrate theory and practice as well as develop good communication skills. Although this project focused on one course, the hope is that the data and conclusions drawn will be applicable across a range of teaching and learning situations, including other health, social care and education professions.
