Iqbal Mohammad
Iqbal Mohammad has always wanted to do well in life. He has dreamed of having a good job, a good home – “a nice life”.
Getting a good education has always been part of this dream. Unfortunately, having Asperger’s syndrome has made this a big challenge.
Iqbal’s determination to get achieve his dream regardless of any obstacles is an inspiring story. He hopes that other people with a similar diagnosis will be encouraged to keep going when they hear about his success. Iqbal tells his story in this video, and you can also hear from people who have given him support along the way. This includes Circles Around Dundee, who provide person-centred support to people with a label of autism/learning disability.

Iqbal’s story is a good example of these Citizen Leadership principles:
- 1. Potential
- Iqbal shows that having a diagnosis like Asperger’s does not and should not stop someone from fulfilling a dream to explore his potential
- 7. Control Through Partnership
- Eventually Iqbal got the support he was looking for. This helped him achieve the outcomes he wanted i.e. getting to university
- 8. Wider Benefit
- By being an excellent role model, Iqbal’s story changes from being a personal success to being an inspiration to others
