Role of diagnosis in counselling and psychotherapy

This unit explores the role of diagnosis in the treatment of mental health problems. It considers the history of our current understandings of 'mental health' and 'illness' with focus on the concepts of anxiety and depression, and looks at potential gains and losses in using diagnostic labels in counselling and pyschotherapy. This unit is an adapted extract from The Open University course D240 Counselling: exploring fear and sadness . It is at introductory level, and should take 8 hours to complete.

Freudian slips - BBC Radio 4 Science

In Freudian Slips Lisa Appignanesi revisits five of Freud’s major works for their centenary. The focus for the first programme in the series is Freud's essay 'Sexual Aberrations'. The second programme looks at the essay 'Infantile Sexuality'. The third discusses the last of Freud's essays on sexuality in which he explains why the troubled adolescent has to relive childhood in a bid to leave home. The fourth programme in the series looks at 'Fragment of an Analysis of a Case of Hysteria' which was Freud's first great case history.

Provision of therapy for child witnesses prior to a criminal trial: practice guidance

The Crown Prosecution Service, the Department of Health and the Home Office have worked together to produce this guidance. The guidance is issued as part of the Action For Justice programme by which the Home Office is coordinating the implementation of the various measures for witnesses recommended in Speaking Up For Justice.

The Department of Health, the Crown Prosecution Service and the Home Office have worked together to produce this practice guidance. The guidance is issued as part of the Home Office led Action for Justice programme, which said that good practice guidance on the provision of therapy prior to trial for vulnerable or intimidated adult witnesses would be issued.
